Timothy P. Kirwan


Tim Kirwan, a leading hotelier in New England for more than 30 years, joined InterContinental Hotels & Resorts in December 2005 as General Manager of InterContinental Boston.  Mr. Kirwan was responsible for successfully launching the 424-room InterContinental Boston which opened in November 2006 – InterContinental Hotels & Resorts’ first property in Boston and New England.

Prior to joining InterContinental Boston, Mr. Kirwan opened the Hotel Commonwealth in 2001 and served as its Managing Director until 2005.  Under his direction, Hotel Commonwealth received numerous industry awards including “Best New Business Hotel” by Forbes.com and AAA’s Four Diamond Award.  The hotel’s signature restaurant, Great Bay, under the helm of Boston-based celebrity Chef Michael Schlow, Chris Myers and Esti Parsons, received recognition as “Best Seafood Restaurant” by Boston Magazine in 2004.

During his career, Mr. Kirwan also served as Chief Executive Officer of Monarch Hotels/Brauer Management where he was responsible for the pre-opening and development of multiple hotel projects in New England and the U.S. Virgin Islands in addition the management of luxury condominiums in Greater Boston.

Born and raised in New England, Mr. Kirwan began his hospitality career at the Inn at the Mountain in Stowe, VT.  He held increasing roles of responsibility over the years with hotel brands as Westin and Hyatt and opened several hotels in the Boston and in Providence, RI areas including the Hyatt-Cambridge (MA), The Bostonian (MA), and The Westin-Providence (RI).
